The titles opposite are just a few of the magazines I work for. I can write for any market - and for any country. Between the years of 2001-2010 I lived in Australia and New Zealand. I still filed articles weekly for UK based publications. Now, UK based, I send things the other way providing regular health content for magazines in Australia.
At weekends I write the successful blog Not Your Normal Health Blog (notyournormalhealthblog.com) which offers an irreverent – but useful – take on health and beauty. The blog was previoulsy named Health-e-Helen and under this guise won the Highly Commended Award at the 2014 National UK Blog Awards.
My USP is providing information editors haven't seen before. I hate to write the same fact twice. I love research and making science translatable and hope that every piece of copy I write makes someone say 'I didn't know that' at least once.
In 2012 I was runner up in the UK Guild of Health Writers Awards for a piece on why we may never cure the cold. I lost to New Scientist; I take that as a compliment.
I also do limited amounts of travel features. I am an ex-travel editor of a monthly glossy magazine and, when time permits, still love to dip my toes in. I have recently contributed articles on destinations including Sydney, Houston and Anaheim to Sainsbury's magazine and the website passportstamps.uk.
I am a freelance health journalist with over 20 years experience. Health Editor of Woman’s Own magazine at the age of 23, I went freelance in 1999 and have since written for virtually every newspaper and women’s magazine in the UK and numerous international titles including those in Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East.
My newspaper clients have included the Observer, the Independent on Sunday, the Daily Mail, the Daily Express, The Sun and Daily Mirror. My magazine clients include Red, Stylist, Stella, Top Sante, Glamour, Sainsbury's Magazine and Australia's Good Health magazine.
News pages are also a specialty. I have compiled health pages in Best, Woman's Own, Cosmopolitan and Slimming World magazines. I also ran the Bodyologist column on website healthista.com for three years.
I am author of eleven diet and lifestyle books including the bestselling Easy GI Diet. I have also co-authored and ghost written books with high profile experts and celebrities.
"What Helen Foster doesn't know about health and nutrition could be written on the back of a postage stamp – she's always our first choice for well-researched, perceptive features that deliver crucial information in a witty and engaging way." Helena Lang, Editor, Sainsbury's Magazine
